Mario Jerez

I am a PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Minnesota, advised by Dr. Maria Gini. While taking classes, I am researching swarm intelligence and multi-robot systems. Inspired by the cooperation found in social insects, I am interested in designing robotic systems that effectively cooperate in a decentralized manner to accomplish tasks such as exploration, foraging, and building.

Projects

UAV-based deer deterrence system

Designed a novel energy efficient coverage path planning algorithm for a UAV-based deer deterrence system

Luminescent Ant Foraging

Developed a decentralized, multi-agent algorithm where agents use luminescence-based communication to find resources and take them to their nest

Simulating Interesting Foraging Behaviors

I simulated two foraging behaviors found in nature that interested me: bucket brigade and hitchhiking.
